The Village of Mamaroneck is gearing up to celebrate a vibrant summer of music, bringing together the community in a series of engaging concerts. Presented by the Village of Mamaroneck Arts Council, this annual series promises a diverse lineup of performances, catering to all musical tastes.
The festivities kick-off with a bang on the 4th of July at the Harbor. The renowned St. Thomas Orchestra, a 60-member ensemble, will provide a symphonic backdrop to the fireworks display illuminating the water. Their repertoire will include works by esteemed composers such as Bernstein, Copland, Eckfeld, Ellington, Gould, and Sousa, culminating in a captivating rendition of Tchaikovsky's iconic "1812 Overture."
Solange De Santis, the manager of the St. Thomas Orchestra and a dedicated volunteer on the Arts Council, expressed her enthusiasm for this long-standing tradition in the Village, stating, "It's truly extraordinary to witness such a sizable orchestra perform a free and open-air concert for the community. We are thrilled to continue this cherished tradition."
Building on the success of previous seasons, this year's Summer of Music will explore the theme of World Music. Audiences can anticipate a rich tapestry of sounds, ranging from African rhythms to samba and klezmer. These hour-long performances in smaller, intimate settings aim to foster a cozy neighborhood atmosphere that appeals to families and music enthusiasts alike.
In collaboration with the Emelin Theater, the Arts Council has also curated two standout productions at Harbor Island. Audiences can enjoy Broadway favorites and experience the highly charged energy of a Bruce Springsteen tribute band.
