The Library Budget and Trustee vote will take place on Wednesday, December 6th between 7 am and 9 pm at the Library. This annual vote is to approve the 2024 – 2025 library budget and elect trustees for the fiscal year that begins June 1, 2024.
Five individuals are running for five seats on the Board. See HERE for more information on both the trustee candidates and the budget. Two of the five are incumbent Trustees.
The proposed budget, a 5.5% increase over the current budget, can be viewed HERE. It describes cost-cutting measures the board and staff have identified in order to balance their budget including staff reductions through attrition and eliminating open positions, closing the library on Sundays and more robust fundraising.
The largest expenditures are $1,990,500 for debt service (original renovation bond and TAN repayment) and $1,876,878 for staff (salary and benefits). The average tax increase for residents is approximately the cost of 2 books.
Effective January 1 the board has a new president - Ellen Hauptman, with Elenita Chmilowski as VP, Fiona Palmer as Secretary and Lilliana Diaz Pedrosa as Treasurer.
If the budget does not pass it will most likely then require cuts in staff and services to make ends meet.According to the recently adopted Comprehensive Plan survey the Mamaroneck Library was recognized as the institution for which residents are most satisfied rated higher than the schools and public safety (police, fire and EMS).
