Another Food Vendor Presentation for Harbor Island Park

At the Board of Trustees (BOT) Work Session another contender to be the vendor to operate a food concession at Harbor Island Park.  The Board of Trustees (BOT) received a detailed proposal by an experienced food vendor/restaurant group with more than twelve food and beverage operations across Long Island and in NYC.  Several of the operations are beachfront enterprises where food, drink and entertainment are provided.  See presentation HERE. A sample menu showed seafood-heavy offerings and the proposal promoted local partnership and community collaboration along with environmentally sustainable operations.

Two other vendors presented at a prior board meeting on July 16th (See HERE.)

The BOT reviewed the presentation but did not discuss the three proposals or make any decisions.

Baby Steps Toward Revising Board Operating Procedures

BOT members (and the public) have commented that the current board procedures need some tweaks.  Although acknowledging that some aspects of the changes institute a few months ago are working (e.g., having a “consent agenda” where non-controversial resolutions are aggregated for Board votes) other procedures aren’t effective.  It’s a work in progress but the BOT agreed to have two meetings each month (on the second and fourth Mondays) starting at 5:30 for the Work Session and 7:30 for the Legislative Session.  Public comment on agenda items only would be allowed with a 5 minute limit at the beginning of the Legislative Session so the public can be heard before the BOT votes.  Public comments on any topic (also with a 5 minute limit) would be allowed at the end of the meeting.

Upcoming Mamaroneck Library Election on December 10th

The vote on the Library budget and for trustees will be held on Wednesday, December 10th.  We will report more information as it becomes available.

Community Engagement Session for a $4.5 million Grant – Take the Survey!

Choice Words – the Village’s grant writing firm – made a presentation (see HERE) seeking community comments for project ideas to use the money if awarded.  Created in 2022 by Governor Hochul the goals are to revitalize downtowns and reinvigorate local and regional economies by creating vibrant downtown destinations.

The Village’s application would focus on a few blocks from Palmer Avenue at Mamaroneck Avenue to Harbor Island Park and potentially include rehabilitation of the unused Hook & Ladder Firehouse.  Sidewalk and streetscape enhancements, façade improvements, lighting and security upgrades could also be included.
