Faulty Material Blocks Sewer Lines
by Cindy Goldstein -
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved a contract to clear up blocked sewer laterals on Prospect Avenue and Colonial Court. Some residents experienced sewer backups into their homes, later determined to be due to faulty slip-lining work done many years ago. See HERE. It was stated that the company that manufactured and sold the material has gone out of business.
A sewer lateral is the underground pipe that connects individual residences with village sewer mains (pipes) located in the streets. The Village is reviewing records to determine whether other sewer work may have used the same faulty materials, to proactively prevent backups in other areas.
After investigation and inspection, the Department of Public Works determined that slip liners on village sewer mains had shifted, obstructing sewer service connections. The project includes work on the 7 affected lines and will take approximately 3 days. The cost is $7,850 per day, not to exceed $23,550.
