Library Update

by Kathy Savolt -

The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office recently announced that Mary Soto, the former Business Manager for the Mamaroneck Public Library, was sentenced to three years of probation.  In addition, Soto has repaid the $43,940 she stole from the Library between May 2016 and February 2023.  It was Soto’s faulty record keeping over many years that led the Library Board to believe that they had more funds in reserve than they actually did.  Upon discovery, the Library was forced to borrow money and cut expenses to balance their budget.  Soto worked for the Library for 27 years.

In other news, Soto’s immediate supervisor, Jennifer O’Neill, was recently suspended from her position as Executive Director.  O’Neill has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit alleging retaliation for a sexual harassment complaint against a Library Board member.  This lawsuit is pending.
