Organized and hosted by the all-volunteer Mamaroneck Fire Department, a fundraiser was held on April 13th for Agostino “Augie” Fusco, Village resident, Village Clerk-Treasurer, and member of the Fire Department. Augie has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and when one of our own needs help, the Mamaroneck Village Fire Department leads the way and the community responds.
Over 200 people showed up for a spaghetti and meatball dinner and they opened their hearts and wallets to Augie and his family. Many local businesses donated food and merchandise for a raffle. Neighboring fire departments contributed money and food as well. In an unofficial cook-off between meatballs cooked by Mamaroneck’s own Alan Casterella and Vito Forgione, Augie’s father-in-law, from the West Harrison Fire Department, it was very close, but Casterella’s meatballs were the crowd favorite!
At press time, the amount raised was $24,000 and more is on the way.
