New Pocket Park Dedicated

The second pocket park in the Village – Nostrand-Howard Riverside Park – was dedicated on a mild September afternoon with bees and birds already visiting the native vegetation. 

Approximately 60 people were welcomed by Kate Dehais, Chair of the Village’s Committee for the Environment (CFTE), to see the park and celebrate the work that made it happen – particularly the volunteers and Village staff who spent countless hours cleaning out invasive species, restoring the native habitat along the river, and providing an oasis for birds, bees, and anyone who needs to take a deep breath.

This new park joins the first pocket park – Rockland Pocket Preserve – dedicated in 2022.  The plan is to connect all these pathways along Mamaroneck riverways to create the Mamaroneck Greenway. See HERE.

Pocket parks serve multiple functions: re-establishing the natural habitat by removing invasive species, installing native plants to attract wetland pollinators, and providing a patch of natural flood mitigation. 

This site has a bench dedicated to former Assistant Village Manager Dan Sarnoff, who helped identify this space.  You can sponsor a bench here or at the Rockland Pocket Park and dedicate it to honor a person (or people), giving the community a place to reflect, rest, and enjoy the natural environment.
