Promoting Community Health Open Door Family Medical Center

At the heart of Mamaroneck's vibrant downtown stands the Open Door Family Medical Center - a beacon of hope and healing. Founded in 1972 by a group of volunteers, this remarkable institution provides essential healthcare services to individuals facing challenges in accessing or affording medical care. With six locations in the Lower Hudson Valley, Open Door serves nearly 1,000 adults and children daily. Their unwavering commitment to offering quality care to all, regardless of their ability to pay, fosters a spirit of inclusivity and compassion, nurturing strong bonds with neighbors and extending a helping hand to all in need.

5th Annual Health Fair in Mamaroneck

On Saturday, August 5th, from 10 am to 2 pm, Open Door, located at 689 Mamaroneck Avenue, will welcome adults and children to participate in their health fair, “Healthier Mamaroneck - Access to Care Health Fair.” Dedicated to promoting community health, the event offers a diverse range of free health screenings, including blood pressure, asthma, BMI, vision, and diabetes assessments, along with confidential HIV testing and COVID vaccinations. Attendants will have the opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals and patient advocates throughout the day, gaining valuable insights into their health concerns and available medical resources.

Holistic Approach to Family Healthcare

Steve Clark, representative for Open Door Mamaroneck, emphasizes the holistic nature of the event, aiming to address not only medical concerns but also lifestyle and fitness aspects. “The fair will provide attendees with connections to local health resources, ensuring that individuals become more aware of affordable healthcare options available to them,” he said. “By offering these services, the health fair aims to reach out to individuals who may not regularly seek medical attention due to various barriers.”

The event encourages families to participate in promoting their well-being. Children are welcome and can enjoy a variety of entertainment options, including a live DJ, Zumba demonstrations, raffles, giveaways, and a talented balloon artist. Additionally, Arts Westchester's Arts Mobile will provide art activities, catering to young creatives and keeping them engaged throughout the event.

It Takes a Village

In addition to Open Door, several community-based organizations will be exhibiting at the health fair, including the Community Resource Center, Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club, Rye YMCA, White Plains Hospital, Yale New Haven Health Greenwich Hospital, and Arts Westchester.
