Ferdinando V. “Freddy” Murgida of Mamaroneck, NY, passed away on August 25, 2026. He was 93. Born in Newark, NJ, on January 13, 1933, to the late Ferdinando and Giovanna Murgida, Freddy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951– 1953 with the 350th Infantry “Battle Mountain” Regiment, U.S. Occupation Forces, European Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal. After the military, he worked for the NYC Board of Education as a structural engineer, specializing in foundation design and soil mechanics, in its Bureau of Design & Construction. After his retirement, Freddy enjoyed traveling internationally with his wife of 64 years, visiting family and friends, hosting dinners and cookouts, and tending his vegetable garden and roses. Freddy is survived by his beloved wife, Rosina “Rose” Murgida (nee Vaccaro) and his cherished son, John Murgida. He was predeceased by his dear siblings, Patsy Murgida and Caterina Murgida, and his beloved brother-in-law, Dominic Vaccaro
Olga Ricci, of Mamaroneck, passed away on August 22, 2026. She was 80 years old. Olga was born on January 15, 1946, to Luigi & Pasqualina Ricci in Santo Padre, Frosinone, Italy. Earlier in life, she worked at the Sealectro Factory and later worked in the cafeteria for the Harrison School District. Olga was a loving homemaker and caregiver to her family. She was the devoted wife of Joseph Ricci for 59 years, the cherished mother of Peter Ricci (Donna), Nancy Ricci-Cohen (Chris), and Angela Ricci-Crook (Robert), and the loving grandmother of Daniel, Erin, Andrew, Brayden, Connor, and Michaela. She is also the dear sister of Tonino Ricci (Virginia).
Nemo Fontecchio of Mamaroneck, NY passed away on August 12, 2026. He was 94. Born in Capestrano, Abruzzo, Italy in June 1932 to his parents, the late Antonio and Maria Fontecchio (nee Rinaldi). He later made his home in Mamaroneck, where he was married, raised his family and became a proud, self-employed electrician.
He was the beloved husband of Ann Fontecchio (nee Saul), with whom he shared many cherished years. He was the devoted father of Mary Fontecchio Cullen and the late Nemo A. Fontecchio, and the loving grandfather of Jessica, Zachary, Benjamin, and Gabriel. He is also survived by his loving daughter-in-law, Laura Fontecchio. He was the dear brother of Menina Vespa, Rita DeMeo, and the late Rosalina Alleva, and was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Mario Vespa, Giovanni DeMeo, and Domenico Alleva.
Nemo will always be remembered for his love of gardening – especially the yearly multitude of tomato plants and huge harvest. He enjoyed years of hunting in the Catskills and boating on the sound. He took pride in his ability to fix just about anything and wouldn’t rest until the job was done. He worked hard to build a respected business and enjoyed his work. His memory will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Karen Genovese, a vibrant, warm, and joyful woman who brought laughter and light to everyone around her, passed away on August 12, 2026, at the age of 85. Born in the Bronx on January 27, 1941, Karen was the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Ida von Tischler. She graduated from the Calhoun School for Girls at 16, attended Syracuse University, and graduated from New York University, where she met her future husband, Frank Genovese. They married in 1963 and eventually settled in Mamaroneck.
Karen began her career as a teacher before entering the commodities business, where she became chief trader. She loved her work and brought the same confidence and spirited personality to her career that she brought to every part of her life. She also served on the American Heart Association board. An avid reader, Karen,read the New York Times cover to cover every day. She loved golf, skiing, playing cards, mahjong, and blackjack.
Above all, Karen treasured her family. She was kindhearted, generous, stylish, and fiercely devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a gift for storytelling, and a remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel loved and included. She made sure family photographs were taken to preserve the memories she cherished so deeply. Karen is survived by her daughter, Letitia Baviello; her son, Frank Genovese; her grandchildren, Kayla Vozza (Frank), Matthew Baviello, and Emerson Genovese; and her great-grandson, Enzo Vozza. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Genovese, and her brother, Dr. Barry von Tischler.
