Supreme Court Judge Wood Nominated

Mamaroneck Observer

By Cindy Goldstein -

At a chaotic convention on August 10th Democratic party leaders barely nominated Judge Charles Wood for the November 7 ballot after two rounds of voting.

Judge Wood was a controversial judicial nominee for many reasons including his 2021 ruling in favor of Project Veritas, a right-wing activist group, against the New York Times prohibiting the publication of documents prepared by Project Veritas attorneys. Some saw this as an attack on the freedom of the press, consequently civil liberties experts and journalists were alarmed by the decision and progressives objected to Judge Wood’s nomination.

As reported by The Mamaroneck Observer See HERE Judge Wood was a Republican judge who switched to Democrat in 2019 and subsequently received his first nomination as a Democrat.

Project Veritas has several lawyers including Robert Spolzino, Executive Partner of Abrams, Fensterman, LLP. Mr. Spolzino, also a former Republican and colleague of Judge Wood, is a Democratic District Leader in the Village of Mamaroneck and the Village Attorney.

Judge Francesca Connolly was re-nominated to serve another 14-year term on the Supreme Court.
