Village of Mamaroneck Police Awards Ceremony

National Police Week was marked in the Village of Mamaroneck by an Awards Ceremony held at Rye Neck High School on May 15th.  Police Chief PJ Trujillo welcomed everyone and noted that during National Police Week communities across the nation pause to honor the courage, commitment and sacrifice of law enforcement.

Trujillo noted that the two major reasons for people to move to the Village are the excellent schools and public safety.  He also stated that many residents are not aware of the tremendous work the officers do every day to keep the Village a safe place to live, work and visit. 

Promotions, appointments and significant training were recognized along with various awards in many different categories that spanned multiple years.  (The department does not hold an awards ceremony every year so this one covered events from 2021 to 2025.)  Trujillo also explained that if the work was related to a criminal case no awards could be given until the case is adjudicated in the courts. 

Trujillo briefly described 30 incidents that led to the awards.  Many were based on officers using their training and instinct to stop incidents before they happened.  Others were stories of tragedy and heartbreak for families and some involved Ike, the golden/labrador retriever mix who joined the force in 2023. 

Some of the Award Recipients

 Some Department Commendations included: Exceptional Merit Award for diligence, ability and courage regarding an arrest in a major crime category; Honorable Service Award for a creditable act that demonstrates initiative and competence; Life Saving Award for saving a human life and Unit Citations for outstanding achievement through combined efforts of recognized members.

As officers came to the stage to accept their awards proud families looked on including young children of some of the officers.  Perhaps some of them will grow up to follow in the parents’ footsteps and join the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department.
