Water Rates to Increase

As expected, the Board of Trustees (BOT) voted 3-0 (Trustees Silver and Kushnick were absent) to increase the water rates by 25%.  This increase was necessitated by the mandated need to build a filtration plant.  See HERE.

This increase brings the Village of Mamaroneck on par with the Town of Mamaroneck and the Town/Village of Harrison, fellow members of the Westchester Joint Water Works.  These municipalities foresaw the necessary increase and started with smaller increments in earlier years.  The Village of Mamaroneck chose not to follow suit, opting for the inevitable increase all at once.

The new rates take effect with the next billing cycle.

Harbor Island Playground Equipment Approved

During the Capital Budget discussions, the BOT approved a multi-year plan to replace the aging playground equipment in Harbor Island Park.  The current equipment is over twenty years old and showing its age.  Because of the costs involved, the BOT voted to phase in the replacements over three years unless outside funding is secured.

At the Work Session, Jeff Ahne, General Foreman of Parks, presented three revised options for Phase One of the project.  Building on the park’s proximity to Long Island Sound, the playground will have a nautical theme as reflected in all three options.

The price tags ranged from $190K to $298K.  The major differences among the options were size and compliance with the American Disability Act.  The BOT selected the middle option, 30% larger than option 1, ADA compliant and suitable for children ages 2 - 12.  The cost will be $216K.  See illustrative rendering HERE.

The matter was added to the Legislative Agenda for a vote when Ahne informed the BOT that approval at the meeting would lead to installation in April 2026.  The BOT approved the capital expenditure 3-0.
