Sometimes you just need a sweet treat.  Owner Pasquale Colalillo knows that and keeps his shop well stocked with lots of different bakery items.

A Community Meeting Spot

On any given weekday morning the tables are filled with patrons, some speaking Italian or Portuguese, enjoying their coffee and pastry along with friends.  There’s also a brisk takeout business with folks grabbing a coffee and a roll, cookie, muffin or slice of cake.

A Busy Kitchen

Almost all of the baked goods at Boiano are baked in-house – the only exceptions are some fruit candies and certain breads.  Through the open doors you can see into the kitchen where there’s constant movement and cakes, cookies and pies regularly flow onto the shelves.

There’s something for everyone including some treats for those who are gluten sensitive.  Approximately 10 different flavors of biscotti nestle on the back wall, and a large glass case holds traditional Italian cookies some with chocolate. jam and sprinkles.  Black and white cookies and various coconut macaroons are mainstays but at this time of year, the seasonal selection includes whimsical decorated cookies with marshmallow snowmen or red-nosed reindeer with more variations to be added soon.

Pride in Creativity

Colalillo’s niece Anna Pallotta is the creative genius behind the gorgeously decorated cakes.  Order a custom cake with a few days’ notice and Pallotta will turn it into something original and unexpected.  Pallotta is also responsible for the decorations on the seasonal cookies.  Whether you are taking a Boiano confection to a friend or having it at home it will be enticing to look at as well as delicious to eat.

Reasonable Prices Keep People Coming Back

In these times of rising prices Colalillo keeps his prices fair – perhaps more than fair.  This strategy has kept Boiano Bakery open for 30 years.  He has always worked in various food businesses, and he knows what people like.  Colalillo also owns Cosmo-Alex Deli right next door.

Boiano Bakery is located at 258 Mamaroneck Avenue and is open every day starting at 7 am.  The only day of the year they are closed is New Year’s Day but on some holidays they close early.
