After another pedestrian-vehicle accident last weekend, Village officials are once again focusing on the Mamaroneck and Prospect Avenues intersection.

As previously reported (see HERE) this intersection has been the site of several accidents and the solution is not as simple as everyone would like because the existing infrastructure cannot be reprogrammed to include an All-Pedestrian Phase.

Several months ago, the Village, working with Westchester County (Mamaroneck Avenue is a County road) created what is called a Leading Pedestrian Phase in the traffic light sequence.  This gives pedestrians a short time to get a head start across Mamaroneck Avenue.

At the October 13, 2026 meeting, Assistant Manager Dennis Delborgo announced that the capital project to replace the traffic light infrastructure is being accelerated.  In the meantime, the traffic engineers are reviewing the situation to determine if the Leading Pedestrian Phase can be lengthened.  Last spring, the capital project was estimated to cost $600,000.
