George Latimer, our US Representative, stopped by the March 9, 2026 Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting to report on Federal issues that impact the Village.

As he began, Latimer reflected on all the times he’s been before various BOTs in the past going back to his days as a County Legislator.  This time around he had possible good news and bad news.

Good News

The possible good news is the application the Village submitted to him for “Local Projects” for $2 million in funding for work along the Beaver Swamp Brook has “a very good chance” of getting funded.  The Beaver Swamp Brook overflows in heavy storms which causes flooding in Rye Neck. It is often overlooked.

Bad News

The bad news is that we are all still waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers project.  Additional funding is needed and Latimer promised to keep Village officials posted.  Additionally, he recognized the recent spike in fuel prices and mentioned the impact this will have both on residents and the local government.

Deputy Mayor Nora Lucas thanked Latimer for his report and his service.  She noted that he could have retired (from his job as County Executive) and that his current job is probably “not that much fun.”
