Local pet owners will no longer need to drive 30 minutes for emergency care as Mamaroneck welcomes the Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center (VSEC) to the neighborhood.  A cutting-edge facility dedicated to providing 24-hour veterinary care, VSEC is located at 566 East Boston Post Road, directly across from Pizza Gourmet.  VSEC will serve pet owners in Westchester and the surrounding tri-state area with a wide range of specialty and emergency services.

A Community Welcome

Last week, VSEC held a pre-opening party that was met with an enthusiastic response from the community.  “The support was so overwhelming, with over 150 neighbors—including many local pet families and friends, and numerous local primary care vets attending.  We’re so grateful to be joining this community,” says Lindsay Karchin, the center’s Director of Marketing and Communications.  The warm reception sets a positive tone for VSEC’s future in Mamaroneck.

Expertise and Compassionate Care

VSEC is privately veterinarian-owned, which allows for independent decision-making and firsthand oversight of operations.  Founder and Medical Director Dr. Samuel Dicker is a board-certified specialist in Emergency and Critical Care with more than a decade of clinical experience.  A graduate of Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Dicker is committed to delivering exceptional care.  “Our goal is to provide top-notch, compassionate care when it’s needed most.  Our team’s advanced training ensures that pets in Westchester receive the best possible treatment,” he stated.

Indeed, the clinic is equipped to offer a variety of services, including emergency and critical care, surgery, diagnostic imaging, oncology, and internal medicine.  This comprehensive range of services ensures that pet owners have access to specialized care when their furry friends need it the most.

 State-of-the-Art Facilities

VSEC features advanced diagnostic capabilities, including ultrasound, CT scans, and endoscopy.  “When a pet swallows something silly, endoscopy can mean efficient extraction rather than invasive surgery,” says Dicker who happens to be a specialist in the procedure.  The facility is equipped with modern surgical suites and comfortable recovery spaces, all designed to cater to pets' medical needs while providing a calming environment for both pets and their families.  The facility reflects a commitment to using the latest technology to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.

Community-Centric Approach

The center’s patient-focused philosophy is reinforced by Dr. Dave Hunley, Chief of Staff and a board-certified oncologist.  “We prioritize communication and collaboration at every step,” he says.  “Every case is unique, and we work closely with families and their primary care veterinarians to ensure optimal outcomes.”  This approach fosters trust and transparency, allowing pet owners to feel involved in their pets' care.

Convenient Access for Pet Owners

The emergency room is open 24 hours a day, allowing clients to walk in whenever urgent care is needed.  Even if unsure whether their pet is experiencing an emergency, they are encouraged to call for guidance.

Community Engagement and Future Plans

VSEC is committed to being an active participant in the Mamaroneck community.  The clinic plans to have a booth at the SPCA Westchester's Dog Walk and Pet Fair on May 16th, the largest animal event in Westchester.  Additionally, VSEC is partnering with NY Pet Rescue in Harrison to organize engaging events throughout the summer and fall, further solidifying their commitment to local pet owners and animal welfare.

Educational Resources for Pet Owners

In addition to providing exceptional veterinary care, VSEC is committed to educating pet owners through various platforms.  The clinic's website and Instagram will feature educational tips and articles authored by its specialists, covering topics such as:

- “My dog ate chocolate, now what?”

- “Pet Oncology 101”

- “How to Safely Transport an Injured Pet to the Hospital”

- “Seizures in Dogs: What Pet Owners Should Know”

The facility also has a large reception area/classroom on the second level and has scheduled training and continuing education classes for primary care vets in the area.  “Part of our collaboration with the veterinary community in lower Westchester is offering continuing education programs led by our specialty doctors,” says Dr. Dicker.

Looking Ahead

As VSEC gears up for its official opening, anticipation within the community continues to grow.   The clinic is on track to open by the end of this month, following some last-minute construction delays due to weather.  With a strong commitment to quality care, community involvement, and ongoing education, VSEC is poised to become a vital resource for pet owners in Mamaroneck and beyond.
