For many people, there’s nothing like a good summer read (or two, or twenty).  Luckily, the Mamaroneck Public Library has something for everyone.  Launching on June 27th, the Color Your World Summer Reading Program will be just the right addition to your summer fun.

For All Ages and All Abilities

Designed for everyone from infants to seniors, the Summer Reading Program includes tracking your reading for a chance to win prizes, Reading Clubs for children and teens for independent reading (with a chance to earn prizes), and numerous related activities for children throughout the summer.

Track What You Read – All Ages

Grab a log at the Reference Desk in the library and start reading.  Once you have finished two books, you can pick up a raffle ticket at the Reference Desk for a chance to win a prize.  Raffle tickets are available for each book thereafter until you reach a maximum of 20 so check in regularly.

Children’s Book Clubs

Download a log HERE or visit the library.  Logs for independent reading are by age group: Read to Me for infants and toddlers, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, and grades 3 through 5.  Suggested titles are also available at this link.  Depending on age, children log minutes and/or hours reading during the summer and can collect prizes at certain intervals.

Related Activities at the Library

Children’s activities will be held at the library throughout the summer.  See July calendar HERE.

Summer Slide

Long-standing educational research has shown that reading over the summer can prevent what’s called the “summer slide” when children lose some of their education gains while away from the classroom.  This year, there’s no excuse.  The Library has made reading very easy for all.

Guess what?  Audiobooks count!  Taking a road trip?  The whole family can listen and log.

Kids going to camp?  Download some books on their devices and pack their logs!  Not sure what to read?  No problem!  Suggested reading lists are available.  Or ask a librarian for a suggestion!

Thanks to the Sponsors

Locally, several businesses and residents are supporting the Summer Reading Program with prizes for reading and the raffle.  Here’s the latest list See HERE.

New York State also supports our Library’s participation in the national Collaborative Summer Library Program which develops a summer reading program annually for libraries across the country.

How many books are you planning to read this summer?  Start now and you have until the end of the Program on August 15th to read as many books as you can and qualify for raffle prizes as an added bonus.
